释义 | Morris, Gouverneur/ˈmôris / (1752–1816), US politician. An active proponent of American independence, he represented New York as a member of the Continental Congress 1777–79, at the Constitutional Convention 1787, and in the US Senate 1800–1803. While serving as Robert Morris’s assistant superintendent of finance 1781–85, he proposed the adoption of a decimal monetary system based on dollars and cents. |
