A pennon in the form of a right-angled triangle, especially one attached to the tip of a lance or spear.
Origin
Early 19th century; earliest use found in Samuel Meyrick (1783–1848), antiquary and historian of arms and armour. Apparently originally a misreading of Old French panon pennon.
