Togliatti

/An industrial city and river port in SW Russia, on the River Volga; population 705,500 (est. 2008). It was founded in 1738 but relocated in the mid 1950s to make way for the Kuibyshev reservoir. Former name (until 1964) Stavropol; Russian name Tolyatti.
Origin
Renamed in 1964 after Palmiro Togliatti (1893–1964), leader of the Italian Communist Party.
