From late Latin (Vulgate), Greek Ēdēn (Septuagint), and Hebrew ‘Ēḏen; perhaps related to Akkadian edinu, from Sumerian eden 'plain, desert' (but believed to be related to Hebrew ‘ēḏen 'delight').
