An orthorhombic silicate of aluminium, Al6Si2O13, that is formed by the action of high temperatures on other aluminium silicates and is used for making refractory porcelains and bricks.
Origin
1920s. From Mull, the name of an island off the west coast of Scotland where the silicate was first identified + -ite.
