A card game resembling pontoon, in which the object is to acquire cards with a face value totalling fifteen points, or to come as near as possible to that number without exceeding it.
Origin
Early 18th century; earliest use found in Abel Boyer (?1667–1729), lexicographer and journalist. From French quinze, use as noun of quinze fifteen.
