Horticulture. The propagation of plants by budding. Now historical and rare.
Origin

From classical Latin emplastrātiōn-, emplastrātiō (in post-classical Latin also inplastratio) method of budding trees, in post-classical Latin also plaster for a wound, adhesive or glutinous quality, application of a plaster from emplastrāt-, past participial stem of emplastrāre + -iō.
