单词 | Ramessid |
释义 | Ramessid/ˈraməsɪd/(also Rameside, Ramesside, Ramesid) noun A member of the Egyptian royal family during the 19th and 20th dynasties (13th to 11th centuries b.c.).
adjective Of or relating to the Ramessids. OriginMid 19th century; earliest use found in Austen Henry Layard (1817–1894), archaeologist and politician. From Hellenistic Greek Ῥαμέσσης Ramesses, the name of eleven Egyptian Pharaohs of this family (especially Ramesses I, founder of the 19th dynasty, and Ramesses II: see note at definition; Egyptian r‘-ms-sw) + -id, probably after either German Ramessiden, plural noun or French Ramesside, noun (although this is apparently first attested later: 1864 or earlier). |
