Of an animal, especially a bull: depicted as if enraged or charging.
Origin
Late 17th century; earliest use found in Randle Holme (1627–1700), herald painter. Origin uncertain; perhaps an editorial misreading of, or typographical error for, French rageant, present participle of rager, or perhaps from French rangant, variant of rangeant, present participle of ranger, although the semantic motivation would be difficult to account for.
