Any of various bushbabies found in South Africa, especially Otolemur crassicaudatus and Galago moholi.
Origin
Mid 19th century; earliest use found in Andrew Smith (1797–1872), army medical officer and naturalist. From Afrikaans nagapie bushbaby (earlier South African Dutch nachtaapje), lit. ‘night ape’ from Dutch nacht + aapje little monkey (from aap + -je, diminutive suffix).
