A line of cultured human lymphoblastoid (Burkitt's lymphoma) cells, used in various experimental settings and to produce interferon on a large scale.
Origin
1970s. From the name of Namalwa Joseph, the Ugandan patient from whom the cells were originally taken in 1967.
