A tall, rapidly-growing tree of South-East Asia, Pterocarpus indicus (family Fabaceae (Leguminosae)), which bears panicles of fragrant orange or yellow fruit. Also: the decorative wood of this tree, used for cabinetmaking (also called amboyna wood, Andaman redwood, Burmese rosewood, etc.).
