A navigational and surveying instrument that uses the same principle as the sextant but with a full circle rather than an arc.
- It consists of a metal circle graduated in degrees, an arm with a sighting telescope and a horizon mirror, and another arm with a second mirror. The principle was described by T. Mayer in Commentarii Societatis Regiae Scientiarum Gottingensis 1752 2 325..
