Origin
1970s. Either from ancient Greek νουθετικός or directly from ancient Greek νουθετεῖν to put in mind, admonish, warn, rebuke (frequently in New Testament; from νοῦς + -θετεῖν (in νομοθετεῖν to make laws from νομοθέτης)) + -ic; compare -thetic.
