OriginMid 19th century. So called on account of its having been introduced by Henry Augustus Loveday, a Chaplain of the Bengal Ecclesiastical Establishment, who sent the problem (under the pseudonym ‘Shagird’) from Delhi to the Chess Player's Chronicle in 1845. |
