Old Left

1 Politics (now US ). The older liberal elements in social-democratic activism, especially as distinguished from the more radical New Left that arose during the civil rights movement in the 1960s.
2 British Polit. The more socialist wing of the Labour Party, as distinct from the liberal and centrist wing which became dominant in the 1980s and 1990s.
