A series of unsaturated aliphatic acids of the general formula CnH2n−1COOH, in which there is a chain of carbon atoms containing one double bond. Now rare.
- The first acids of the series are acrylic (propenoic) acid, crotonic (butenoic) acid, and angelic and tiglic acids (pentenoic acids)..

Mid 19th century; earliest use found in Henry Watts (1815–1884), chemist.
