The Glagolitic alphabet.The Cyrillic alphabet was brought here by the followers of Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius, who invented the first Slavic alphabet, Glagolitic, in the ninth century.

The alphabet is of uncertain origin, and was introduced in the 9th century, at about the same time as the Cyrillic alphabet, which has superseded it except in some Orthodox Church liturgies.

From modern Latin glagoliticus, from glagòljica, the name in Croatian of the Glagolitic alphabet, from Old Church Slavonic glagolǔ 'word'.
