1.1 Robert I (1274–1329), reigned 1306–29; known as Robert the Bruce. He campaigned against Edward I, and defeated Edward II at Bannockburn (1314). He re-established Scotland as a separate kingdom, negotiating the Treaty of Northampton (1328).

1.2 Robert II (1316–90), grandson of Robert the Bruce, reigned 1371–90. He was steward of Scotland from 1326 to 1371, and the first of the Stuart line.

1.3 Robert III (circa 1337–1406), son of Robert II, reigned 1390–1406; born John. An accident made him physically disabled, resulting in a power struggle among members of his family.
