Origin
Mid 16th century; earliest use found in Thomas Phaer (?1510–1560), translator and physician. From classical Latin orthopnoea (Pliny) or its etymon ancient Greek ὀρθόπνοια from ὀρθόπνοος connected with orthopnoea + -ία -ia.
