释义 | Wanamaker, John/ˈwänəˌmākər / (1838–1922) US businessman. A pioneering department store merchant, he cofounded a men’s clothing store in Philadelphia in 1861. After his partner’s death, he made it into a department store 1877 and opened another in New York City 1896. The success of his stores was based on advertising. He also served as US postmaster general 1889–93. |
