A boundary between a region of gusty winds and the surrounding air; specifically the leading edge of the region of cool, gusty surface winds produced by thunderstorm downdraughts, typically associated with a sudden change in pressure and temperature drop.

1930s; earliest use found in Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society.
