From Arabic saʿtar, ṣaʿtar, zaʿtar wild thyme, also a condiment made from this herb or similar herbs, probably from Syriac ṣatrā' (Aramaic ṣatrā'; goes to post-biblical Hebrew ṣatrāh savory, in modern Hebrew also satureia, thymbra). |
