单词 haftarah
释义

haftarah

/ˌhɑːftəˈrɑː/
Judaism
noun
In Jewish liturgy: a lesson from any one of the Former or Latter Prophets, read in synagogues after the parashah or reading from the Law.

Origin

Early 17th century; earliest use found in John Lightfoot (1602–1675), Hebraist and biblical scholar. From post-biblical Hebrew hapṭārāh (Babylonian Talmud: Megillah 29–31) from either hipṭar ‘to dismiss’ or its etymon pāṭar ‘to conclude’, the lesson being so called because it originally marked the end of a synagogue service.
