From modern Greek παληκάρι, παλληκάρι lad, man with youthful characteristics, brave person (Hellenistic Greek παλληκάριον (recorded in a papyrus as παλλικάριον); from παλληκ-, πάλληξ (also πάλλαξ) youth, of uncertain origin + -άριον, diminutive suffix).
