1 Genetics. Of a chromosome or part of one: showing a pattern of condensation and expansion through the cell cycle that is out of synchrony with the bulk of the chromosomal material.
2 Geology. Designating cyclic or repetitive patterns of deposition within a sedimentary system which are attributed to factors external to the system.
