An interpretation of (part of) the Hebrew scriptures in which a historical context is used, instead of allegory, to prophesy the end of days.
Originally with reference to the Qumran manuscripts, especially that interpreting the book of Habakkuk. Later also with reference to Christian New Testament sources..
Origin
1950s. From Hebrew pēšer (plural pĕšārīm) interpretation, explanation (only at Ecclesiastes 8:1 in the Hebrew Bible; used in formulae introducing interpretations in the writings of the Qumran community).
