Originally: a haemolytic substance (later shown to be a mixture) extracted from the death cap toadstool, Amanita phalloides, and thought to be the poisonous principle of the toadstool. Later (more fully phallin A, phallin B, etc.): any of certain cyclic oligopeptides present in this mixture.
