(Usually more fully as Judicial Committee of the Privy Council) a tribunal in the United Kingdom, established in 1833, which considers appeals made to the Queen (or King) in Council.
  • The Committee's main role now is to consider appeals from courts in Crown dependencies, British Overseas Territories, and several Commonwealth countries. It also hears certain ecclesiastical and professional cases originating within the United Kingdom. Other appeals formerly made to the sovereign in Council now come before the Court of Appeal as constituted by the Judicature Acts..
