Jean de La Bruyère

/ /la bʀyjɛʀ/ (1645–96), French writer and moralist. He is known for his Caractères (1688), based on a translation of the Characters of Theophrastus and exposing the vanity and corruption of human behaviour by satirizing Parisian society.
