A genus of the family Thymelaeaceae, comprising evergreen shrubs native to Australasia and bearing white, pink, or yellow flowers in terminal heads, often surrounded by coloured bracts; (also pimelea) a shrub of this genus.
Origin
Late 18th century; earliest use found in James Edward Smith (1759–1828), botanist. From scientific Latin Pimelea from ancient Greek πιμελή fat + scientific Latin -a, so called on account of its oily seeds.
