单词 | Boucher de Perthes, Jacques |
释义 | Jacques Boucher de Perthes/ˌbuːʃeɪ də ˈpɛːt![]() (1788–1868), French archaeologist. In 1837 he discovered some of the first evidence of man-made stone tools near the bones of extinct (Pleistocene) animals in the valley of the River Somme. He argued that these tools (and their makers) belonged to a pre-Celtic ‘antediluvian’ age, but his findings were not accepted until the 1850s. |
