Either of two tropical African lianas of the family Apocynaceae that bear fruits resembling the persimmon, Landolphia dulcis (more fully sweet pishamin, sweet pishamin-tree) and L. acida (more fully sour pishamin-tree).
Origin
Early 19th century; earliest use found in John Loudon (1783–1843), landscape gardener and horticultural writer. Variant of persimmon.
