A flat roll, similar to a bagel, with a crisp or chewy texture.
Origin
1950s; earliest use found in Like Mama used to Make. From Yiddish pletsl (plural pletslekh) flat roll, cracker, probably (with suffix substitution) from German Plätzchen biscuit, cracker from Platz, now denoting various baked goods regionally, of uncertain origin + -chen.
