A mineral consisting of a hydrated silicate of calcium, Ca5H2Si6O18·6H2O, which belongs to the orthorhombic crystal system and occurs as white to reddish translucent gelatinous masses that harden on exposure to air.

Mid 19th century; earliest use found in Henry Watts (1815–1884), chemist. From French plombièrite from the name of Plombières-les-Bains + French -ite.
