In industrial processes: the reaction of lime and carbon dioxide to form calcium carbonate; specifically (in beet sugar manufacture) the addition of calcium hydroxide followed by carbon dioxide to the raw sugar solution in order to remove impurities in a precipitate of calcium carbonate.
