From Middle French analepsie (French analepsie) type of epilepsy and its etymon post-classical Latin analepsia (also analempsia) gastric epilepsy from ancient Greek ἀνάληψις + classical Latin -ia, apparently so called because the disorder was thought to affect the upper parts of the head.
