释义 | Luce, Clare Boothe/lo͞os / (1903–87), US playwright and public official; wife of Henry Robinson Luce. After a stint writing and editing at the magazine Vanity Fair 1929–34, she wrote the plays The Women (1936), Kiss the Boys Goodbye (1938), and Margin for Error (1939). She was a war correspondent during World War II, served in the US House of Representatives 1943–47 as a Republican from Connecticut, and was US ambassador to Italy 1953–57. Presidential Medal of Freedom (1983). |
