Mackenzie bean

A trailing plant, Canavalia rosea (or C. maritima) of the family Fabaceae (Leguminosae), which has edible seed pods and is found in north Australia and elsewhere in the tropics, especially on beaches.
Origin
Mid 19th century; earliest use found in Ludwig Leichhardt (1813–?1848), natural scientist and explorer in Australia. From the name of the Mackenzie River in Central Queensland, Australia + bean.
