Any of numerous inclusion bodies in the cytoplasm of skin cells in cases of smallpox, cowpox, and monkeypox, now thought to be aggregates of poxvirus particles. Usually in plural.

1930s; earliest use found in Journal of Pathology and Bacteriology. From the name of Enrique Paschen, Mexican-born German bacteriologist, who described the particles + body.
