Portugal laurel

A large evergreen shrub or small tree, Prunus lusitanica (family Rosaceae), native to the Iberian peninsula, the Azores, and south-west France, similar to the cherry laurel and often grown as an ornamental.

Mid 18th century; earliest use found in Philip Miller (1691–1771), horticulturist and writer.
