A silicate of manganese, especially a red or pink crystalline or powdery solid, MnSiO3, which occurs naturally as rhodonite and is used as a colourant for glass and ceramic glazes.

Late 19th century; earliest use found in Edward Dana (1849–1935), mineralogist and physicist.
