Attributive Designating or relating to a method of testing whether the difference between independent observations from two populations has zero median, and hence whether the populations are in fact the same. Chiefly in Mann–Whitney (U) test.
Origin
1950s; earliest use found in Annals of Mathematical Statistics. From the names of Henry Berthold Mann, Austrian-born U.S. mathematician, and Donald Ransom Whitney, U.S. statistician.
