A container in which substances are heated in order to sublime them.

Origin

Late Middle English; earliest use found in Geoffrey Chaucer (c1340–1400), poet and administrator. From Middle French sublimatoire or its probable etymon post-classical Latin sublimatorium (although this is apparently first attested later: 1490 in a British source) from classical Latin sublīmāt-, past participial stem of sublīmāre + -ōrium.
