An oxymoron is a figure of speech used deliberately for rhetorical effect, e.g. bitter sweet and be cruel to be kind. The term should not be used as an alternative for an accidental or mistaken ‘contradiction in terms’ as in The notion of a rock singer is an oxymoron (implying that rock stars cannot usually sing). In cases like this, use paradox or contradiction in terms instead
