- the largest British organization which gives help and support to refugees and asylum seekers (= people who have left their country because they were in danger and are asking for protection from another country). It was founded in 1951 and campaigns for fair treatment for refugees and works directly with people arriving in Britain, giving advice, accommodation and training and also working with smaller community refugee organizations.
