Enron Corporation
- a US energy trading company that was started in 1985 as a gas pipeline company based in Houston. Under the leadership of Kenneth Lay it grew to become one of the largest companies in the US and the largest energy trading company in the world. In 2001 its collapse as a result of fraud within the company became the second largest business failure there has ever been. Dishonest accounting practices had allowed it to declare profits which did not exist.
