Pat Garrett

- (1850-1908) a sheriff (= law officer) in the American Wild West, who arrested his former friend, the criminal Billy the Kid, in 1880. When he escaped, Garrett pursued him for months and finally shot him at Fort Sumter, New Mexico, on 4 July 1881.
