Alistair Cooke

- (1908-2004) a US broadcaster and journalist, born in Britain. He was well known for his BBC radio series Letter from America, in which he described US life to the British. The series ran from 1946 until his death. He wrote and presented a very successful television series on American history called Alistair Cooke's America (1973). He also appeared on US television to talk about British life, and to introduce British plays in the Masterpiece series.
