- a novel (1905) by Baroness Orczy (1865-1947). It is about a group of Englishmen who rescue upper-class French people from being killed during the French Revolution. The main character is Sir Percy Blakeney, also known as the Scarlet Pimpernel, who dresses in various disguises to avoid being captured by the French. A film of the book was made in 1934 and another in 1994.
